Tim Lindsey (TC 1981) was an unenthusiastic student of Indonesian at high school. Now one of Australia’s foremost experts in Indonesian law, his expertise is sought by government, business and the courts; and he was welcomed into the Order of Australia as an Officer in the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours. Here, he shares the story of how he became hooked on Indonesia.

When Charmaine Yee (TCFS 2004) was just 15-years-old her drama teacher pulled her aside and said, “one day your voice will be your asset.” Now, a successful radio host of Kiss 92FM and television presenter, Charmaine could not have known how prophetic these words would be. The recent Oscar-nominated Australian drama, Lion, starring Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman and Sunny Pawar, alerted the general public in Australia and throughout the world to the scale of poverty that exists within the slums of India. It’s a story however, that won’t surprise twelve Trinity students who headed to Delhi in January 2017, to volunteer with The Asha Foundation, the goal, to empower local children through education.
Alex Horton (TC 2012) describes winning two premierships in a row and captaining the Trinity footy team alongside his close mates as the ‘peak of his footy career’. However, it is his leadership in introducing Aussie Rules to a small village in South Sulawesi and growing the sport in the region, which is quickly seeing him emerge as a sporting ambassador across the Asia-Pacific.
